- A. Philip Roth, Margaret Atwood, Russell Banks, Toni Morrison, Doctorow, Eugenides

- A. I’m a promiscuous reader and have been since I was a kid. There are so many books that have enriched my life, it’s difficult to pick five without a bunch of others popping into my mind shouting, what about me, and what about me?

- A. Margaret Atwoods’ Blind Assassin
- Q. Do you have one sentence of advice for new writers?
- A. Read. Read. Read. Write. Devote your best time of day to it.
- Q. What comment do you hear most often from your readers?
- A. They love my characters and want to know more.
- Q. How did you come to write Christmas Cookie Club?
- A. Nine years ago, I was "the virgin" at a cookie exchange. The party atmosphere, the closeness of the woman were perfect for a novel about the importance of women's friendships. I decided then to write it and began notes. The year 2008, with the financial crisis cried out for a novel about the importance of friendships, love, and support to get us all through hard times.
