March - Women's History Month Celebration
By Aileen Leijten - March 1, 2010
To me, the word history mostly evokes long gone, far away events.
However, this past year we have been fortunate enough to hear the word combination ‘history in the making’ more often, especially in relationship to our new president, Mr. Obama.
We often forget that ‘history in the making’, also happens every day, in small workspaces all around Brooklyn. Behind those brick walls artists and writers plug away, creating books for our children. Some of these artists are women.
March happens to be Women’s History Month and I am most fortunate to be part of a local celebration of recent history. But, I don’t want to forget the strong shoulders we stand on. The women who made it possible for us to have a more equal place in this society.
Thank you!
